Rollers, Gunners Clash As League Resumes

Two historic giants of domestic football, Township Rollers and Extension Gunners will on Saturday kick off the 2019-20 Botswana Premier League with a mouthwatering clash set for Saturday afternoon at the National Stadium.

Tse Tala and the Mapantsula from Peleng have had many big contests over the years at hallowed National Stadium pitch and Rollers head coach Tomas Trucha expects his charges to do their best on the day.

“We were very dissapointed to lose the CAF Champions League match to Young Africans last week; it was very difficult to switch to preparation for the league,” Trucha said on Friday evening. “We analysed that game and we had a meeting with the players on Tuesday..the players themselves also had a meeting. Since Tuesday we have been 100 percent focused on the Gunners game. There are some good things, many positives we picked from the CAF game and also things we had to work on and now we are coming to the league people will see positive changes.”

Trucha expressed respect for Gunners a top side which has struggled in recent times but is always expected to raise their game when facing fellow crowd pullers Rollers.

“Gunners have brought in an experienced coach (Stanley Mwaanga) who knows all about preparing a team for the league and knows Rollers since he worked here in the past. Although Gunners have had issues with the budget they have done very well in the transfer market, they have brought in some experienced players,” Trucha said.

The Czech mentor said his team would approach the marathon league season one match at a time.

“As things stand, we are all equal; we are all on zero points. It is important for every team to start well, that is what we want as well, and then we will take the league marathon it game by game,” Trucha said.

A strong presence of the Rollers fans will be important to the team, Trucha added.

“I thank all the supporters who came last week. But I believe we can have a bigger crowd than that. Even in Europe, supporters play an important part as a 13th player that pushes the team to perform well. Rollers has a big support base and I ask our supporters to be present in big numbers tomorrow and in the other league matches,” he said
