Rollers, Galaxy Clash

Township Rollers and Jwaneng Galaxy meet in what should be an exciting league contest between two of the pre-season title favourites at the National Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Having finished in the top two positions in the Botswana Premier League over the past four seasons, Rollers and Galaxy are once more anticipated to be among the frontrunners in the title race, and the Match Day Two fixture affords each a chance to establish an early foothold.

After putting his side through their final preparations on Friday, Rollers head coach Hassan Oktay said the mood in camp is upbeat as Popa hopes to continue from last week’s 2-0 win over Extension Gunners.

“It is very important that after the first game the boys find their rhythm. But one of the problems, a few went for vaccination. Some got sick, some are fine, otherwise we are optimistic, we are positive. I don’t like to make excuses I have about 30 players and I trust each every single one of them,” Oktay said.

Most of the squad has been involved in the week’s preparations, but Edwin Moalosi (hamstring), Boyo Lechaena (groin) and Mmoloki Kebalepile (calf) have been sidelined.

A couple of senior players who got the Covid-19 vaccination first dose a couple of months ago, before the rest of the squad got their single jab, received a second dose this week and could be affected.

Hassan said the team had responded well over the week to training as the Blues prepared for the mammoth contest against a team that recently reached the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

“The preparations have gone very well, very good…We respect Galaxy. It is not easy to play Champions League, it is a completely different platform, it is good for the players to put themselves in the African and European market, so we know they are a good team,” Oktay said.

The Blues return to the National Stadium after their triumph over Gunners last week, and will count on their home support against the travelling Jwaneng side.

“I have heard a lot of things about the Township Rollers supporters and I want to see them at the stadium, I want every single one of them there. If they want to see attractive football they should come and watch…because these boys deserve to get support, to get love, and I am looking for my supporters to come to the stadium and back the team,” Oktay pleaded.
