Popa, Magosi, Lock Horns at UB

In a football fixture that has created lingering memories among local football fans over the years, particularly over the past decade, Township Rollers face Mochudi Centre Chiefs on Saturday night at the UB Stadium.

Popa and Magosi have had contrasting starts to their 2018-19 BTC Premiership league campaign; the Blues winning six and drawing one in seven league matches, Chiefs managing a single win, three draws and three loses.

Rollers assistant coach Leutlwetse “Luu” Tshireletso told rollersfc.com that the team’s preparations were handicapped by not having a full team for training until Thursday, but they still believe they will plan well for their opponents.

“We had eleven players who were away with the national teams (the senior Zebras and the under 23 squad). You need time to prepare, but this time we did not have that. But that is not an excuse, we will prepare, and we will keep fighting, we will do whatever it takes to get the win on Saturday night. We want to continue winning, we want to continue collecting points as much as possible,” Tshireletso said.

Chiefs won their previous match against Security System, their first win of the campaign, and having got that monkey off their back, Magosi will now want a morale boosting victory against Popa.

“Centre Chiefs have just registered their first win of the season so they are confident now and they are looking for three more points. But I am happy with what we are doing now, where we want to go as a team, the road we are taking ends up next May. We will continue playing our normal game and carry on from where we left off before the international break,” he said.

Having played in such fixtures himself during his playing days, Tshireletso understands the importance of supporters being behind the team throughout the 90 minutes.

“I urge the supporters to come to the stadium in large numbers and be our 12th man, to give us that boost. Matches such as these are about the fans getting behind their team so we hope for a large turnout of ours,” Tshireletso said.

Centre Chiefs enter the weekend on position nine on the log with six points, while Rollers are top of the log with 19.
