Mogorosi Hat Trick Hero As Rollers Edge Past Sankoyo

A Joel Mogorosi hattrick as well as a Segolame Boy free kick beauty handed Township Rollers a 4-1 BTC Premiership win over Sankoyo Bush Bucks at the National Stadium on Saturday night.

Plucky Sankoyo had fought their way back into the contest through an Oabile Babusi goal just minutes after Mogorosi had opened the scoring for Popa 15 minutes into the first half.

But a wonderfully struck Boy free kick on the hour mark restored Rollers’ lead, and after debutant Kamogelo Matsabu was brought down in the box, Mogorosi stepped up for the Blues’ third from the penalty spot in the 76th minute before rounding up the win with another goal off a Boyo Lechaena assist at the death.

Rollers now have ten points after three wins and a single draw in their opening four matches of the season.

Rollers head coach Nikola Kavazovic kept the same starting line up from the previous league encounter, the 1-0 win over Sharps Shooting Stars at the same venue a week earlier.

Kavazovic kept a 4-3-3 line up of Wagarre Dikago in goal; Jackson Lesole, Simisani Mathumo, Mosha Gaolaolwe and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe in the four man defence; Kago Monyake, Maano Ditshupo and Motshusi Cooper in a three man midfield; with Joel Mogorosi, Segolame Boy and Tumisang Orebonye in a three man attack.

After the opening exchanges, Sankoyo tested Dikago in the sixth minute; a flowing move involving a string of good passes by the visitors ended up with Gasoitse Manuel unleashing a low drive which Dikago saved.

In the 12th minute Mogorosi located Orebonye, who beat his marker but from a tight angle could only hit the side netting.

The two sides then got a goal apiece within the space of a few minutes. First Rollers got the lead when a pin point Ditlhokwe cross sent in the direction of Mogorosi in the penalty box was missed by the defender with Mogorosi then tucking the ball into the far post to make it 1-0 to Popa.

Sankoyo then got their response. A William Sithole cross was met by Oabile Bathusi at the far end, the latter then slotted the ball into the near post to draw the contest even at 1-1.

As the first half wore on, Popa took the game by the scruff of the neck, attacking Sankoyo goal minder Kabelo Kuti’s goal relentlessly.

But Ngurungu held on for a half time scoreline of 1-1.

Ten minutes into the second half, Kamogelo Matsabu was introduced in place of Monyake, the substitution handing Matsabu his Rollers debut.

A free kick beautifully curled in by Boy in the 60th minute restored Rollers’ lead. A minute later, Orebonye had the ball in the back of the net but his effort was ruled out for offside.

In the 69th minute Matsabu beat the defender inside the box yet in his attempt to score could struck the woodwork as Rollers looked to secure the lead.

Rollers earned a penalty when Matsabu was brought down in the box and Mogorosi converted the spot kick to take the contest beyond the visitors at 3-1 in the 76th minute.

Late on Galabgwe Moyana came on for Orebonye and Boyo Lechaena replaced Boy.

At the death Lechaena played a cross into the box for Mogorosi who rose high to head home, securing a comfortable 4-1 win

It ended that way as Popa registered three more points on the board.
