Township Rollers’ glorious era of the late 1970s to the mid 1980s was guided by among others, the legendary player-coach Chibaso Kande, who hailed from the then Zaire (Democratic Republic of Congo).

Now, as Popa seek a record-equalling fourth successive title, a new forward from the DRC has joined the latest title assault- Bindu Wansididi Bibo. As he settles into life in Gaborone, rollersfc.com spoke to Bibo…

“It was great to score on my debut,” Bibo reflects on his contribution in the 4-0 triumph over Black Forest. “It was the perfect way to start my career at Rollers. This is a big club, like TP Mazembe in the DRC, like Zesco in Zambia and there are great expectations. I would love to contribute to the success of the club.”

Born and raised in the metropolitan melting pot that is the Congolese capital Kinshasa- the home of rhumba music and kwasa kwasa dance- Bibo played football from his youth before turning professional. After stints at clubs including AS Vita and FC Lupopo, he went on to play in Asia, then at Kabwe Warriors of Zambia before ending up at Popa.

“At Vita I was a young player still learning from the more experienced ones,” he recalls, “I then moved on for more regular football and after playing for other clubs in the DRC, including Lupopo in Lumbubashi, I played in Asia then in Zambia, and now I am at Rollers,” says Bibo.

With a cultured left foot, Bibo is a strong forward who has a knack for goal, and can create as well as convert; he now looks to contribute to a Rollers side ambitious for more glory.

“Rollers is a well organised club, and there is a lot of talent at the club. I would say the atmosphere here is very relaxed, even in training you find people joking and laughing. The playerI have become close to is Ivan Ntege, we are both foreign players, our circumstances are similar. But I can say everyone is my friend. I believe local players have the talent to make it in more professional leagues, but they need to work hard because in a foreign environment you need to put in extra effort,” Bibo says.
